Finding out you might be pregnant, particularly when you weren’t planning for it, can bring everything to a halt. You might feel scared, confused, or unsure where to even begin. Those feelings make sense, and they’re more common than you might think. What matters right now is that you have accurate information, time to think, and access to support that isn’t going to push you in any particular direction.
Hope for Life Women’s Resource Center in Storm Lake, Iowa is a nonprofit pregnancy resource center offering free, confidential services to women and couples in that exact situation. There is no cost for any service, and there is no agenda behind the care. Our role is to give you the information and support you need to make a decision that is right for your life.
What Services Does Hope for Life Offer?
Our services are built around giving you a clear picture of where things stand and the space to think through what comes next.
Pregnancy testing at Hope for Life uses clinical tests administered by trained staff. If you took a home test and aren’t confident in the result, or you simply want confirmation before making any decisions, you can come in at no cost and without judgment. A positive result is just information, not a deadline.
Pregnancy options counseling covers all three paths: parenting, adoption, and abortion. Counselors do not have a financial stake in your decision and will not steer you toward any particular outcome. You can bring a partner, a parent, or a friend, or come on your own. Everything you share stays confidential.
Parenting support and education is available for women and couples who are considering raising their child or who have already decided to parent. We offer resources on fetal development, prenatal health, and what to expect in the early weeks and months of parenthood. We can also connect you with community organizations in the Storm Lake area that assist with baby supplies, housing, and financial resources.
Adoption information is available for women who want to understand what the adoption process actually looks like. A common misconception is that placing a child for adoption means losing all connection. Open adoption arrangements, where you maintain some form of contact, are now the most common arrangement. We can walk you through the different types and connect you with licensed agencies in Iowa.
Abortion recovery support is available for women who have had an abortion and are struggling emotionally in the aftermath, whether the procedure happened recently or years ago. Support is provided in a confidential, nonjudgmental setting. Many women find that the emotional weight of an abortion experience surfaces long after the fact, and we offer a space to work through it when you’re ready.
Referrals for practical assistance are part of what we provide alongside our direct services. If you’re navigating an unplanned pregnancy and need help finding housing, food resources, or medical care, we can point you toward the right organizations in the area.
Understanding Your Pregnancy Options
No two situations are the same, which is why these conversations matter more than any article can fully capture. That said, here is a grounded overview of what each option actually involves.
Parenting means taking on the responsibility of raising your child, whether with a partner, with family support, or on your own. It’s the path most people consider first, and it comes with real practical questions around finances, childcare, housing, and career. Hope for Life can connect you with local resources that address those specifics directly.
Adoption allows you to carry the pregnancy to term and place your child with another family. You have more say in the process than many people realize, including the ability to select the family and, in open adoptions, maintain an ongoing relationship. We can connect you with licensed Iowa adoption agencies who will walk you through your rights and options at every step.
Abortion is a medical procedure that ends a pregnancy. In early pregnancy, two approaches are used: the abortion pill, a regimen of two medications approved for use through the first ten weeks, and aspiration abortion, a short outpatient procedure. Iowa law governs where and when these services are available. Hope for Life provides accurate, nonjudgmental information about both without referring for or promoting abortion services.
