If you have heard the term “pregnancy resource center” and were not sure what actually happens inside one, you are not alone. A lot of women see the phone number or drive past the building and do not call because they are not sure whether it is for them, what they would be agreeing to, or whether someone would push them toward a particular decision. We want to answer that directly.
Hope for Life Women’s Resource Center in Storm Lake, Iowa is a nonprofit organization that provides free, confidential services to women and couples facing an unplanned pregnancy. There is no cost for anything we offer, and no pressure attached to any of it. Here is a complete picture of what that actually looks like.
Pregnancy Testing
Pregnancy testing at Hope for Life is performed by you, with a trained staff member or volunteer present throughout the process. If you took a home test and are not confident in the result, or simply want confirmation before making any decisions, you can come in at no cost. A positive result is just information, not a deadline, and a staff member will be right there to answer whatever questions come up when you see it.
Free Limited Ultrasound
Free limited OB ultrasound is available by appointment and is performed by our registered nursing staff. This is the step that confirms whether a pregnancy is viable and how far along it is. Gestational age matters regardless of what you are weighing, and knowing it before any decisions are made gives you a complete and accurate picture to work from. Call ahead to schedule this service as it does require a separate appointment.
Pregnancy Options Information
Pregnancy options counseling covers all three paths without steering you toward any of them. Our counselors walk you through what parenting, adoption, and abortion each involve so that whatever you decide, you are deciding with accurate information rather than assumptions. We do not provide or refer for abortion services, but we do provide straightforward, factual information about the process so you understand what it involves at each stage.
Adoption Referrals
Adoption referrals connect you with trusted adoption partners who will walk you through your rights as a birth parent and help you create a plan entirely on your terms. A common misconception is that placing a child for adoption means giving up all say in what happens. Modern adoption gives birth parents significant input into the process, including open arrangements where you maintain ongoing contact with your child after placement. We can connect you with licensed agencies in Iowa who will explain every option available to you.
Parenting Education and Community Resources
Parenting education is available for women and couples who are considering raising their child or who have already decided to parent. We offer resources covering fetal development, what to expect in the weeks following birth, and how to prepare practically for a new child. For couples navigating this together, we also offer support for partners working through the transition.
Beyond education, we connect you with community organizations in the Storm Lake area that provide assistance with housing, food, medical services, and infant supplies. If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy and feel like the practical side of parenting is the biggest obstacle, those conversations are exactly what we are here to have.
STD and STI Information
STD and STI information is part of our services because sexually transmitted infections can directly affect a pregnancy and the decisions around it. If you have questions about what testing is available or want to understand how an infection might interact with your current situation, we can walk you through what you need to know and refer you to the appropriate medical providers in the area.
Abortion Recovery Support
Abortion recovery support is available for women who have had an abortion and are struggling emotionally, whether the experience was recent or years in the past. Many women carry unresolved feelings long after the fact and find it difficult to know where to bring them. We provide a confidential, nonjudgmental space to work through it whenever you are ready.
Faith Based Support
Bible study and gospel conversations are available for women who want a faith based dimension to their experience with us. Hope for Life operates from a Christian foundation, and for women who want that kind of support alongside the practical services we offer, our team is equipped to provide it. It is never required or assumed, but it is available for anyone who wants it.
